Some of these questions may take a long paragraph or even two to
answer, others will require just a few sentences.
1. Be able to identify the following: Pentateuch, languages
of the OT and NT, list the first 12 books of the Old Testament
2. Be able to identify the following sites on a map [see Map 2 at
the back of your Bible as well as the index to the maps]: the
rivers Tigris and Euphrates; these countries: Babylon, Assyria,
Hittite Empire, Egypt, and Israel, the cities of Ur and
Haran.
3. Be able to retell these stories in your own words: Garden
of Eden, Cain and Abel, Noah and the Flood, Tower of Babel.
4. Why might one conclude from the stories in Genesis 1-11 that it
is not a historical narrative?
5. How are the genealogies of Gen 5 and 11 similar in
structure?
6. Outline the genealogies of Gen 11:26-30 and 22:20-24.
7. How does the promise to Abram override the curses imposed in
Eden?
8. Levenson argues that Abram's life anticipates or foreshadows
that of Israel – how so?
9. The election of Abram seems to be both merited and unmerited,
explain.
10. Making one's name great is integral to both the story of the
Tower of Babel and the election of Abraham. How so?
