Prof. Jessica Collett, University of Notre Dame. "Introduction to Social Psychology" lecture notes - College

Class Notes

College is a transition from a part of life where one is psychologically and economically focused (or dependent) on parents to being more self-sufficient.  Because of this process of separating oneself from their childhood, many college students consider college a major transitionary period in their lives.

Activity

Get into groups.  Each group is assigned to part of the college experience (applying to college, freshman orientation, declaring a major, attending football games, graduation, etc.).  Explain how that experience can be explained using social psychological principles discussed previously in this class (ex. Graduation is a rite of passage from one role [student] to another role [college graduate, worker].).
