Sociology is the scientific study of the structure and dynamics of society. It deals with human behavior and interaction on the group level wherever it may occur--in family and business, law and politics, medicine and religion, and a host of other settings. Our department is distinguished by both its breadth and its depth. Faculty have expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods, theory and statistics, teaching and research. The department is especially strong in the areas of family, sociology of education, and sociology of religion, but also has distinguished faculty in methodology and statistics, theory, organizations, social psychology, comparative historical, political sociology, sociology of culture, stratification, and race and ethnicity.
