Professor Eileen Hunt Botting, Ph.D. Assistant Professor Department of Political Science University of Notre Dame

(B.A., Bowdoin College, 1993; B.A., University of Cambridge, 1995; Ph.D., Yale University, 2001), Thomas J. and Robert T. Rolfs Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Gender Studies Program. Botting is the author of Family Feuds: Wollstonecraft, Burke, and Rousseau on the Transformation of the Family (SUNY Press, 2006). With Jill Locke, she co-edited the book Feminist Interpretations of Alexis de Tocqueville (Penn State Press, forthcoming 2008). She has published and forthcoming articles on philosophical discourse on the family and women's rights from the late eighteenth century to the present in American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, American Behavioral Scientist, The Review of Politics, Women’s Studies Quarterly and other forums. She is currently writing a book entitled Globalizing Feminisms: Wollstonecraft, Mill, and the Women’s Suffragists.  In 2006, she won the Thomas P. Madden Award for outstanding teaching of first-year students at Notre Dame.  In addition to teaching courses in Political Science and Gender Studies, she teaches political theory to first-year students in the Glynn Family Honors Program.
