Paper Assignment 2
Read Book VII of The Republic carefully. Then, in no more than two pages:
- Lay out Socrates’s argument for the idea that "believers" is the wrong way to describe those who are committed to the real.
- Indicate in the last paragraph of your paper why Socrates thinks that a good society would have a philosopher as king.
HINTS:
- Be sure to distinguish belief from knowledge.
- Be sure to distinguish the object of belief from that of knowledge.
- Be sure to tie the discussion of knowledge and belief to the desirability of "philosopher kings"
