PAPER 4: Due On Session 28

DIALOGUE: Write a dialogue between two speakers trying to understand what the movie Hannah and Her Sisters has to teach them about love. The speakers should be discussing details of the movie, and how they interpret or respond to these details. (Such details may focus on the plot, but they may also include, for example, musical or visual aspects of the movie that contribute to the speaker’s response to it.) Construct one speaker’s point of view by drawing on Othello, and the other speaker by drawing on any text or movie we have read or viewed up to this point in the semester.

ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENT: What does reading the speeches of Phaedrus, Pausanias, Aristophanes, or Socrates in the Symposium contribute to your understanding of the erotic experiences of Othello and Desdemona in Othello? Consider this question in an essay that treats the following three topics: (1) Why Othello is attracted to Desdemona; (2) Why Desdemona is attracted to Othello; (3) The single most striking strength or weakness of the Symposium speeches in analyzing this ill-fated attraction.
