George A. Lopez (Ph.D., Syracuse University, 1975) is a professor of political science and Senior Fellow at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. Lopez's research interests focus primarily on the problems of state violence, terrorism and coercion, especially economic sanctions, and gross violations of human rights. He also has an interest in ethical issues related to these questions. His course, “Introduction to Peace Studies” is one of the most popular in the College of Arts & Letters.
