Checklist for Generating Questions from Lecture Notes
Checklist for Generating Questions from Lecture Notes
| Yes | No | |
| Is there material in your notes for which you have not generated
questions? |
||
| Have you written a summary question for each lecture? |
||
| In a problem-solving course (math, chemistry, physics, economics),
did you leave some space blank so that you can go back and write in
problem variations later? |
||
| In a non-problem solving course, did you leave some blank space to
later add questions which interest you but were not addressed in
class? |
||
| Did you place an asterisk (*) next to material in your notes when
you became confused during the lecture (especially in problem-solving
courses)? |
||
| Did you put a blank line (_____) where information was missed
and later attempt to fill in the missing material? |
||
| Have you developed a system of abbreviations for frequent terms
used in each course? Do you have a glossary of those abbreviations and
the words they represent? |
||
|
Did you test yourself for 5 -10 minutes after you generated questions from a lecture? |
||
| Have you shown your lecture note questions to your content course instructors so they can tell you if you're on the right track? |
Also, ask yourself
- What level of questions did you ask? Do they appear “automatic” or are they reflective of your attempts to deal with the material? In other words, are most of your questions “how” and “why” questions rather than “what”questions?
