Goal Setting Exercise
Lecture 3, Exercise 2
Part 1
In the Time Management Exercise you had the opportunity to visualize what your semester will look like and what choices you will need to consider. Based on that exercise, identify a time management problem you may run into in the fall. If you can’t think of one, consider the following situation: How will you handle a home football weekend? What are your options?
You have assignments in all of your classes:
- Composition/Seminar: Reading to be completed for discussion in class on the Monday after the game.
- Mathematics: Departmental exam on Tuesday after the game
- Science: Test on Friday
- Philosophy: Big reading assignment (50 pages) to be completed by Tuesday
- History: Big reading assignment (350 pages) to be completed by Wednesday
Which of the following options might you choose?
| A. |
Use Sunday as a marathon study session day. |
| B. | Focus on the assignments that have to be handed in and skip the others (you can catch up later). |
| C. |
Anticipate the problem early in the week and devise a plan that will allow you to complete the major portion of the work by dinner time on Friday. |
| D. |
Don’t participate in weekend activities but spend all your time Saturday in the library studying. |
Part 2:
How might you tap into your skills or knowledge (the talents you identified earlier) to help you get through the scenario described above?
