Why is there such variation in the amount of content published for each of the Notre Dame OCW courses?
Each Notre Dame OCW course is developed individually with the participating faculty and instructors. It includes as much of the Notre Dame OCW faculty member's course materials as is available in a digital format, or can be cost-effectively prepared; and is free of Intellectual Property and copyright restrictions. Notre Dame OCW faculty and instructors participate voluntarily, and publish only as much content as they are comfortable having on a Web site that is freely accessible worldwide.
-
Why do some Notre Dame OCW courses lack solutions to assignments, quizzes, and exams?
In some cases, solutions to homework assignments, quizzes, and exams are only discussed and presented in the classroom, and not made available in print or electronic format. In other cases, the instructors plan to re-use in their Notre Dame OCW classroom the assignments, quizzes, and exams, and so they do not wish to publish their solutions.

How do I know if a course has video (or audio) lectures?
One way is to enter the keyword "video" or "audio" into the "Search Site" box located in the top right corner of each page. Search results will then list all of the files, along with the course name for each (including a link to the course home page) and a brief description. Another way is to go to each course's home page. If video or audio files are available, you will see "Video Lectures" or "Audio Lectures" listed in the gray navigation area on the left side of the page. If not, the link to lecture materials will simply be, "Lectures".
-
Why doesn't every Notre Dame OCW course offer video lectures?
Although video lectures are useful for students, it is not affordable, or feasible from a production standpoint, for us to provide video lectures for every course. Video and audio production remains one of the most expensive and time-consuming aspects of the OCW production process. In addition, video content must be reviewed to identify any third-party material (such as music or diagrams). We must then try to obtain permission to use third-party material from the owner, and if unable to do so, we must edit out these sections. -
How do I get a copy of the course pack for a particular Notre Dame OCW course?
The course-pack materials that accompany most Notre Dame courses often contain proprietary information and copyrighted materials that Notre Dame Faculty only use in their classroom interactions with Notre Dame students. However, every attempt is made to link to online materials, if available.
-
How can I contribute my own educational materials to Notre Dame OCW?
It is the intention of Notre Dame OCW to provide materials for actual courses being taught at Notre Dame. It would be difficult for Notre Dame OCW to guarantee the accuracy and originality of materials we received from outside sources. However, we encourage other universities to create their own "OpenCourseWare" in which materials from their courses would be posted online and openly shared with the world.
