About the East Asian Languages and Literatures Department


The peoples of East Asia comprise one-quarter of the world's population and account for a similar proportion of its production and consumption. Knowledge of the diverse languages and cultures of East Asia is vital to developing an understanding of our global community.

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures is dedicated to providing rigorous language training in Chinese and Japanese, as well as courses in English on Chinese and Japanese literature and culture.
