In Class Exercise: Blog Banner

Graphic Banner Example
Example for Session 3 In Class Exercise

Create a graphic banner for your blog header, using tools you learned in Chapter 3: shapes, lines, text, curves, brushes, etc. Try to make something that goes with the color scheme of your blog. Don't worry if you're not the best artist in the world; this exercise is not primarily about being "pretty" - it's about using the tools.

Follow these parameters:

  • Start with a new Flash file and save it often as you work
  • Set the stage size based on the layout of your blog:
(these are not quite standard banner ad sizes - to keep ad blockers from thwarting us)
  • Put each new item (text, shape, etc.) in a new layer.
  • Include a background in the bottom layer - a solid colored rectangle is fine

After you finish editing your banner

  • Export it as a JPG image (on the File menu, choose Export > Export Image)
  • Make sure to select "Include: Full Document Size"

Add the banner to your blog From the Blogger dashboard click Layout > Page Elements

  • To the right of the header (under the navbar) click Edit and upload your image
  • Indicate that the image should replace the title and description

If you have time: create a second banner as an alternative.

Ask your friends which one they prefer.
