Assignment: Join Second Life
- Create an Account
- Select starting look for your avatar.
You will always be able to change it; you can even have a nonhuman avatar. - Create a name for your avatar
Avatar names cannot be changed!
You create the first name, but you pick the last name from a list.
Some name combinations will not be available.
your first name can be 2-31 characters (letters or numbers, case sensitive).
It can be useful to have a first name that could be either male or female.
Don't use your real name! - Provide contact information and demographics
Email address - so you can confirm the account
Complete date of birth - to be sure you are at least 18 years old.
Country of residence - they're curious
Real-Life gender - your avatar's can be different
(view the privacy policy at http://secondlife.com/corporate/privacy.php ) - Provide security information
Password (6-16 characters long)
Security Question and Answer (In case you forget your password)
Verify you are not a robot - prevents mechanical creation of accounts - Accept the Terms of Service Agreement
- Select starting look for your avatar.
- Verify your account - you will receive an email with a link
- Install and launch the software
NOTES:
- Remember that your avatar's name is case-sensitive.
- You will need to agree to the terms of service.
- You will be presented with the Community Standards
- Complete the tasks presented on Orientation Island.
- After that, Help Island is optional - but has some good stuff!
In-Class Exercise: Second Life orientation
- Log in to Second Life
- You will need to agree to the Terms of Service and Community Standards
- Complete the tasks presented on Orientation Island
- Proceed to Help Island and explore a bit - look for some free stuff
- Go to Sophia and have a look around
- Modify your appearance to your liking
Project Work: Second Life
- Begin the Second Life project
