Required tools

An overview of software and hardware needed to successfully complete the course.

Software

  1. Web browser - your choice
  2. Word processor - your choice
  3. Multimedia platform - Adobe Flash CS3 - must be purchased.
    Flash CS4 is available but this course is based on CS3.
  4. Image editor
    • Recommended - Adobe PhotoShop CS3 - must be purchased (v. CS4 should also be fine)
    • Free alternative - GIMP
      (NOTE: no instructions for GIMP are provided in this course)
  5. Sound editor - Audacity (free)
  6. Virtual world client - Second Life (free)

Online service accounts

These are all free at a basic level; additional capabilities are available for a fee.

  1. Blogger/Blogspot (Google) - blogging
  2. Flickr (Yahoo!) - photo sharing
  3. Podbean - podcast publishing
  4. Second Life - virtual world

Hardware

  1. Computer - must be capable of running the required software
  2. Sound recorder
    • Recommended - digital audio recorder
    • Alternative - use computer
  3. Microphone - built-in (recorder or laptop computer) or external
  4. Optional, but likely to be useful
    • Headphones
    • Portable USB storage device
