How to do Basic PhotoShop

Mini-Lecture 2 for Session 6

The canvas is the workspace, like the canvas on which a work of art is painted.
Changing the size of the canvas does not change the size of the image.

The first series of tasks applies to the entire document.

Change the canvas size	Image > Canvas Size (doesn't change image size – provides more/less room for editing)
Rotate or flip the canvas	Image > Rotate Canvas >
Re-size an image	Image > Image Size For Flash, set resolution to 72 Change height or width – other dimension will change
Convert to GIF/JPG	1. File > Save As… OR 2. File > Save for Web
Import an image	File > Place
Crop	Choose the Crop tool (press C) Draw a box around what you want to keep Double-click inside the box

For the remaining tasks, first select the object or layer you want to change.

Rotate		Edit > Transform > Rotate
Scale		Edit > Transform > Scale
Drop Shadow		Layer > Layer Style > Drop Shadow
Sharpen	*	Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen
Color levels	*	Image > Adjustments > Levels Pull the leftmost triangle to the left edge of the "mountains" Adjust the middle one to your preference
Feather	*	Select > Feather Edit > Cut (blurs the edges of a selection; used with cut, copy, or fill)

* Applies to bitmaps (not text or shapes added in PhotoShop)
