Midterm Review
- You will need to know the following taxonomic terms:

- Superfamilies, families, and subfamilies, of the catarrhines and platyrrhines.
- At least one species in each of the following genera:
- Hylobates
- Bunopithecus
- Symphalangus
- Nomascus
- Pan
- Pongo
- Saguinus
- Macaca
- Lemur
- Indri.
- You should know the different types of demographic labels (grouping patterns) used for primates.
- You will need to be able to define and/or use the following
terms/concepts:
- Polygamy, Polyandry, Monogamy, Polygyny.
- Fitness, Strategy, Ecology, Adaptation, Function.
- Fitness value, Fitness cost.
- Optimality theory, Altruism, Kin Selection, Evolutionary Stable Strategy, “Selfish gene” paradigm.
- Think about:
- Types of competition, food distribution, dispersal, predation, parasites and disease
- Habitat selection and utilization, Food acquisition and processing (including the distinctions between food types), Foraging Strategies (including anatomical adaptations), Thermoregulation, Reproduction
