Observer (the Notre Dame student newspaper) describing the field
of
Africana Studies and the
place that the critical examination of the African American religious
experience occupies therein. Your article should:
- Describe the discipline’s primary aims;
- Offer a rationale for treating religious faith as a topic of
central importance within it;
- Detail some of the sources and methods used in the study of
Africana spiritualities in the United States and elsewhere;
- Profile one event in African American religious history that you
consider central to an understanding of its overall nature and scope;
and
- Provide an apologia for the inclusion of Africana spirituality among those
subjects included in an undergraduate Catholic liberal arts
curriculum.
